Hi i need a car/van for work but i also need it for a family car also, does anyone know if its possible to buy a 3 door ford focus and make the back windows like the focus van.

I need seats in the back for the family but with the focus they have fully fold down seats so i would be able to use it like a small van for work.

I cant find anything else that would be a solution for me,any help would be appreciated.

also i know people might say why not keep the back windows but i really cant as it needs to look like a car/van for work if that makes sense!!!!!!!!

You can get the windows tinted like that for sure, but you wont get away with taxing it as a van if the rear seats are still there.

There are no issues with blacking out the rear windows though, apart from making reversing that bit more difficult...

Most if not all 3 door hatchback cars will have seats that fold down anyway.

The quater windows need to be removed and panels put in place, rear seats and belts removed too. It will fail doe test otherwise.

You cannot use a work van for personal use.

Also if you have a family removed rear seats and welded up seat belts is not a good plan.

Bodging them back is just a horribly bad/dangerous idea and no way is it legal.

I can move this thread to motors section if you want more detail and a ton of responses stating the same with some high horses.

From what I can see, the OP wants to just black out the windows and fold te seats down to carry stuff. Can't see that being a problem as long as its taxed as a car.

Exactly. No problem with doing it. You only remove seatbelts etc etc if you want it changed to a commercial for tax purposes.

all you need to mention is to your insurance company that the car is occasionally used for work purposes.

thanks for all the replies,i think i have it all sorted now anyway. I am buying a ford focus car and blacking out the windows and then i can fold down the seats for work purposes and then at the weekends just put them back up for the family.

    thank again
