Looking at sticking my car in next week for the NCT, would be 3 months before its due, are there any implications if it fails, will my current NCT be then invalidated?

No. If you do it 90 days or less than the next due date and it passes, then you get a new cert for either one or two years.

If it fails while it has a current NCT that means you have the opportunity to get it right prior to the current NCT expiring.

But car still might "fail dangerous".
While this theoretically wouldn't invalidate previous NCT, but car could not be driven until fixed (or tested again) -I'm not sure here.

Yes was thinking of fail dangerous overruling it but from what I've looked at the max it would only be minor item like hairline crack on foglight if it did fail.

Then there is no worry. You previous NCT won't be invalidated.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Fail dangerous wouldn't invalidate your current NCT, but it is proof that you were made aware that your car is unsafe

Should you continue to drive and have an accident / claim you can be sure your insurance company will use this to refuse to pay out. Or worse, to sue you for every penny you'll ever have if you cause third party damage...

That said, if it was my car, I'd rather be aware that it is unsafe now then drive it around blissfully unaware for another 3 months :)

Getting it tested early is always a good thing imho
