    So what's your thoughts?

    How do you think people got infected? What do you think they got infected with?

    Biological weapon?
    Mad cow disease?
    Satellite returning from space bring funky space disease?

    I know they don't go into it in the show, and I don't know about the comics.

    Chap in the CDC said they all had it. What if he was wrong? What if his sample size was too small? What if some are immune to it?

    I don't think it'd really matter if some were immune to it. It doesn't affect you until you die, so even if you're immune, a walker bit could still cause an infection and kill you, but whatever it is that turns them wouldn't affect them so they'd stay dead.

    The fact that no one seems to know means it likely wasn't a big event, but rather a slow one. So it was probably some medicine a lot of people had been taking which started causing them to die and turn into walkers.

    Has it ever been said if it's happening worldwide?

    My guess is some sort of airborne bacteria that made its way around the world and infected everyone. I'd say it is worldwide otherwise there would have been some sort of contact or relief effort from the rest of the world.

    Jenner was saying France were the last people looking for a cure and they went right to the end so afaik it is worldwide.

    Must have been some some of airborne virus to be able to spread worldwide. It may be that some researchers (like the french as mentioned) realised this and found a cure for what makes people turn, then it's just about staying in walled communities until the walkers are all destroyed or starved to death. That is assuming there will be a positive ending, which could be a fairly large assumption!

    Thats a pretty open ended question, my theory is one of 2 ;
    Biological warfare gone wrong, going on a strategy of war, to kill some and maim the rest forcing the opposition to waste manpower on treating the wounded, this would have been a powerful third doctrine to kill - ressurect and maim the oppositions wounded.
    A DNA mutation, of a bacteria, much the same way that we believe HIV or Ebola to have manifested itself.

    I wondered, as I have not read the books has the author given any details on this?

    I think it has to be world wide, otherwise some sort of military action would have been taken on Georgia. Like air strikes to try wipe them out. That of the rest or the world has left the American continent infected.

    I remember seeing that the military dropped Napalm on one of the cities. I think it was in season 1.
