hi everyone, My Angel of a dad died in April 2012, of cancer after a year and few months battle with cancer, he raised me by himself after going through a sever custody case for a few years when I was a baby, my mother did not want me, she only wanted money... We were living with my Granny, whom I am now living with now. My dad was a taxi driver. he had no assets or anything other than his car.. I missed most of 5th year in school and I am in 6th year doing my leaving cert this year... My Granny is paying the bills for us 2.. and we arnt really surviving at all... even with the guardians allowance... is there anything else I could apply for... Id rather have a job than begging the welfare office... and Ive applied everywhere for a job... but no replies...
Is there anything I would be entitled to other than Guardians allowance... ?
    Thanks for your answers!!!

condolences on the loss of your dad

    Have you a social worker?
If not contact one through the HSE and inquire about your Gran becoming a relative foster carer, since you are still in school I'm guessing you are under 18 so this may be possible,
    best of luck

I am sorry to hear about your dad too.

Have you contacted citizens information to see if your nan maybe able to claim more for you or if you are entitled to claim anything yourself. Have you looked into a medical card and what about maintainance from your mother?

There is a forum under the biz/ personal heading regarding social welfare, someone there maybe able to help more. Best of luck to you.

strongly recommend you get a social worker before you turn 18, after that point you're treated as an adult in the system and pretty much on your own,
a social worker could assist you with a long term plan for independent living, education etc

Your granny can get childrens allowance for you while you are in school as far as I know.
