You have to salt skins if you want to keep the hair or it will slip.
Best to salt within an hour or two at most.

Get a piece of wood bigger then the skin and nail it on with tacks or small nails making sure it is streatched tight fur side down and give it a good scrape with sharp blade then rub a good bit salt into it and leave it to dry for a day or 2. As said above best do it asap after killing/skinning the animal. Take it off when ready and trim any edge bits you may have missed with the salt

I'm salting rabbit skins at the moment. Going to stitch them together and make a big heavy dummy for the dog for getting used to retrieving bigger items like hare and fox.

You can rub alum or borax onto the skin while you have it tacked up on the frame fur side down-this makes it soft and easy to work/sew with.
