Aer Arann experience

    Hi everyone,

Just looking for people's overall opinions on Aer Arann. I travel from Cork- Glasgow on a regular basis and have found that since this summer (2012) this airline's service has been beyond poor!

The flights never seem to be on time!! It is so incredibly frustrating. The last 5 consecutive flights that I have taken have all been delayed by at least 1 & 1/2 hours!!

In September the flight didn't even leave from Cork at the expected 15:10 schedule. Instead we all had to get on a bus and travel to Shannon and boarded our flight @ approx 19:25!!

On another occasion the flight landed in Dublin due to technical difficulties and we were grounded on the run-way for over 2 hours!!

I am just wondering is it just this particular flight that seems to be plagued with bad luck? Has anyone had any similar experiences? Has anyone been through the process of making a formal complaint and / or receiving compensation?

    Thanks for any replies :)

Did Shannon - Edinburgh with them recently. Both flights were on time but the plane is noisy and a bit shabby.

only on them a couple of times, 2 delays also from what I recall but a reoccuring theme is that the interior of the aircraft are in not great nick, found that myself and heard it before from others. When I am searching for flights I never seem to find them that cheap either for some reason vs FR and AL. This is odd as the ATR is a super economical bird.

i travel cork - manchester with them every few weeks and you are right it is poor, always delays, one time was on the plane and we all had to get off due to a problem with the plane then they bussed us down to waterford because they had no backup plane in cork..Disaster.

Also the cabin crew are ignorant and cranky and the planes noisy and cramped, but seeing as it's the only flight from cork to manchester will have to put up with it.

Used to love them but they do seem to have a habit of cancelling the last flight of the day. Last time knock to birmingham

To be honest I don't mind about the physical plane! I dont mind what is looks like or if it is noisy etc as long as it gets me there! And thats precisely the problem - it gets me to my destination far too late!

I have found the staff mostly quite pleasant too.... it is very annoying though that there is no-one you can directly complain to at the time of the problem. Its not the stewards' fault but honestly sometimes you just feel like screaming at someone due to sheer frustration because of the delays!!

I flew Cork - Cardiff a lot when I lived in Cardiff, couldn't fault them really. When I moved back to Cork they let me off with a whole load of overweight luggage.

As far as I know Aer Arann technically doesnt exist anymore, they were taken over by Aer Lingus last summer (as far as I know) and will cease to exist from January when they will be totally taken in under the Aer Lingus banner.

They were not taken over. It is a franchise agreement, see below.

In January 2010, Aer Arann and Aer Lingus announced that an agreement had been reached to establish a franchise arrangement between the two airlines.

Under this franchise agreement Aer Arann will operate 12 routes from Dublin and Cork. The routes will include current Aer Lingus and Aer Arann routes as well as 3 new routes.

These franchise services are branded as "Aer Lingus Regional" and operated using Aer Arann ATR 72-500 aircraft and crew. All franchise flights are sold and distributed through www.aerlingus.com. Aer Arann assumes full operational and commercial responsibility for the services covered by the franchise agreement with Aer Lingus receiving a franchise fee in recognition for providing its brand and product suite to Aer Arann.

I have used Aer Arann often in the past but not so much recently. Many of the route I took no longer exist.

I find the earlier the flight in the day the better chance you have of it being on time.

A number of times I have taken late flighrs with Aer Arann and they have simply run out of planes.

Once in Birmingham our flight to Cork had been sent to Dublin before us. Another time a plane was taken out of service and the flight from Cork to Edinburgh was delayed meaning our flight from Edinburgh was very late.

I haven't flown on Aer Arann since last May so I cannot comment on service in recent times.
