stepped out the door to this thismorning, neighbours tell me a lorry hit a car that hit mine, just waiting for the guard that was on the scene to get into work so i can call him and find out what happened, what should i be expecting when i do? also a little curious why i wasnt contacted about it? (guards were there and had the road closed for a bit and such. i live in the back of an apartment building so i heard nothing when it happened and im only new to the area so nobody knew whos car it was.

    Ouch. :(

How could they contact you? Are your details up-to-date with motor tax?

Chances are if your new to the area you didn't change your regestration details, so the Gardai couldn't contact you ... Looks like a bit of a mess ... Talk to the Garda, to get the details of the other 2 drivers pass them on to your insurance company ... ( find out what'll happen to your no claims bonus first) . You may need to hire a car to tide you over...? Hope it doesn't leave you out of pocket...

Guard will presumably have the details of the car/lorry involved. Depending on who's been deemed at fault, you should be able to make a claim against them for the damage. First things first, phone your insurance Co. and let them know of the situation.

They should be able to contact you with the reg details as we had a car badly parked on our road a few months ago blocking half the road and the Garda rang a number with the reg and found out who it was and knocked on the door of a house and got the fella to park the car correctly.

Do you know if someone got the reg of the truck? I'd say your car will be written of tbh. Not a nice thing to wake up to.

oh its definitely a write off, theres no coming back from that, the car is registered with my dad in another county and insured in his name with me named on the policy, I had only borrowed it for the week when my bike is in the garage. thought they would of contacted him though.

I'm not sure how these things work but it sounds like your Dad should be making the call. It's his policy, his car.

Time for a better car by the look of it.

the car is registered with my dad in another county

That's why they couldn't contact you.
They didn't have an address or number for you, only your dads.

    Correct.
Policy is in his name, you are only a named driver.
Your insurance company need to be contacted asap with all available details

    Not yet?
He would be claiming from the lorry drivers insurance firstly.
If the driver didn't have insurance, then he would have the choice of his own insurance company (and the no claims potential problems) or the Motor Bureau for un-insured drivers (not sure of exact name).
He would have to find out from the Guard 1st.

If the car is not registered in your name then the Gardai would not be able to contact you as they have no way of tracing you. They would have tried to contact the registered owner which in this case is your dad, the Gardai probably passed the information onto the local Garda station in the county of the address in which the car is registered. I presume you have already told your dad otherwise he might be getting a nasty shock today from the Gardai.

BTW that car definately looks a write off to me, the rear axle looks mangled and chassis is probably seriously damanged too.

Same thing happened a friend of mine a few years ago. She only found out her parked car had been totalled when she rang the guards to report it stolen.

Turned out the guards had arranged for the car to be towed but never told her.
It was parked about 20 feet from her house, all the reg details/tax etc was up to date. They gave no explanation as to why they moved it - it wasn't causing an obstruction- or why they didn't contact her...

Always inform your insurance company of any accident even if it is just informational purposes

Not the first person to wake up to their car looking like that on that section of road, I saw your car this morning. Normally the garda, when they see the address isn't local, will try get a number from motortax.ie to call, that's what they did when my car got hit along there. If they don't have details there, they'd have to contact local station to pop out and deliver the bad news.

I didn't hear it happen, either, btw, with all the extra traffic with tunnel closed during nights.

Garda dealing is based in either Mayfield or Anglesea road stations.

Passed it yesterday afternoon. That area is covered by Mayfield.
