Suggestions for a beer hamper?

My boyfriend loves his beer and I'm thinking of putting together a beer hamper for Christmas. He usually gets Heineken when we're out and he loves German beer. He really likes Erdinger and Konig Ludwig Weissbier and beers that are 'really thick and cloudy looking'. I know there are loads of different types of beer so I'm thinking I should include a few beers that are similar to the ones he already likes and a few different types that he might not have tried.

It's probably sacrilege to say in this forum, but I'm not a beer fan, so I'd really appreciate any suggestions of which beers I should get him.

Next Door off licenses do up drinks hampers for Christmas. You can decide what goes in it and how much it will cost, but they put the hamper together really nice! My brothers and I have been doing it for years now, beers for one brother, wine for the other and spirits for me :pac:

Not sure I can make many suggestions for what goes in it, but just wanted to let you know they offer that service in case you didn't know, the ones in my town anyway!

Drinkstore.ie do hampers of anywhere from €40 to €200.

They have the best selection of beers in the country and they delivery nationally and you can get next day delivery if you order before noon.

He might like Franziskaner which is a German Weiss beer that I've seen in a good few off licences!

To mix it up a bit try Coopers Sparkling Ale from South Australia. Available in the good off licences. They have a Pale Ale too but it's not as good.

Galvins Carry Out do hampers catered to any budget, they have three shops in cork and one in Clondalkin in Dublin. They have a brilliant range of international and craft beers so they should be able to do up a brilliant hamper. I got one for my Dad for Fathers Day just gone from their Carrigaline shop, it went down very well!

Here's the website, they do premade hampers too by the looks of things: www.galvinswines.ie

+1 - there is a great selection there so take a look and maybe post back what you've picked out if you need a second opinion.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The Drinkstore.ie hamper looks great but only delivers to Dublin, although I could order the beers and make up the hamper myself.

Would this seem like a good selection from the German beers?
    Augustinerbrau Weissbier
    Franziskaner Hefe
    Hofbrau Munchner Weisse
    HOLZAR BIER
    ROTHAUS HEFE WEIZEN
    SCHLAPPESEPPEL LANDBIER
    WEIHENSTEPHANER HEFE
    and a couple of Erdinger.

I'd like to add a couple beers from other countries to mix it up a bit, ideally that'd include Irish and UK craft beers. I'll look for the Coopers Sparkling Ale from South Australia that budgemook mentioned. Any other suggestions?

Drinkstore deliver all over ireland. I live in Galway and I've got a few deliveries from them.

Give the lads in the shop a bell and they will explain it to you.

I'd be a big fan of German beers and the cloudy beers you mentioned.

My favourite by some distance is Schneider (Unter 7 is the cloudy beer, or hefe weiss).

I also really like Maisels Weiss. Paulaner is good.

There would be a number of German beers that are quite rare here, you only get them in particular off-licences.

In my view, the very best off-licence for Beer in Dublin is in Stoneybatter..... Drinkstore .....the website is referenced above, but if you are in Dublin, I would go there some evening. The owner/manager could talk about beers for Ireland.

Also, Belgian beers.......Chimay Blue, Leffe Blonde are both excellent.

I'd recommend including some American beers, Sierra Nevadas and Odells for example, maybe just one or two to get a taste

You could also check out your local tesco as they have 5 for €10 at the moment with a few Irish, British and German craft beers

If you call them they will sort you out.

They did it for me a few months ago.

Wow lots to choose from, thanks a million guys. Tombo2001 and Martyn1989 thanks for such detailed posts I'll include as many of the suggestions as I can afford!

I'm based in Galway so it'd be a lot of hassle to go to drinkstore in person but I'll give them a call before placing an order and see what they can do for me. Even if they can't sort sending a hamper the website says it will deliver a box of beers and I'd be happy make my own hamper from that. I could do a 12 (plus) beers of Christmas with a few other little pressies thrown in! :)

McCambridge's on Shop street have a pretty good beer selection if you have no luck with Drinkstore

    They do indeed.

They have recently managed to annoy me.

They have all their beers grouped by country. There is an Irish section, a scotish section, a german, belgian, french, american, kiwi, oz and an English section.

Slap bang in the middle of the english section are Headless Dog (College Green Brewery, Belfast) and Sanity Claus (White Water Brewing, Nwery).

When I pointed it that they should be in the Irish section they told me "They aren't from Ireland". Still hasn't been fixed.
