Hi All,

Following on from an earlier post looking for a warrior III , it seems our seating requirements have increased.

So before I give the good folk at Pacnet Air in Shannon a call , does anyone have experience with this crowd ?
(lovely , avoid , best in market etc)

Is buying into a share a pre-requisite ? ideally I'm just looking for the twin with a pilot for about 35 hours under AOC for tourist flights.

I think I met Gerry is it ?? from Pacnet in Weston a few years ago but alas I didn't realise who he was then. Is this the same Gerry that displays in the flying cow airplane (type escapes me ) seen in Bray this year ?

Thank you in advance for any help,
Safe skies,
Fionn

Yep...the very same man...Gerry Humphreys.

Yes indeed it is Gerry Humphreys and I have to say I'm biased as I consider him a friend but if there's a nicer guy and a better pilot I haven't met him. I'm quite sure everyone who knows him will back that up.

On the other hand I'm not entirely sure if Pacnet would be in a position to provide what you're looking for. I think they specialise in part ownership over a longer period.

But if I know Gerry he may well be able to give you good advice. What size aircraft are you talking about? There are some eight seaters in the country.

I whole heartedly second the endorsement of Gerry Humphreys. He's as excellent as they come. However, I've been told PacNet Air does not operate under an AOC and does not do charters or scheduled flights. The aircraft is operated only by and for owners of the aircraft, thus buying in is an absolute pre-requisite. It’s probably not going to work for 35 hours of tourism, the twin Commander is really not built for recreational flying at low level but for serious point-to-point transport up above the weather. And way too expensive to make sense for this kind of flying.

As far as I remember an AOC is not required for tourist flights that take off and land from the same location. An aerial works permit holder may suffice.

can anyone comment on what tippilot states about operating under aerial works instead of AoC ?

this would be a bit of a game changer as it is entirely feasible to return to our departing airport.

thanks in advance ,

My information is probably anecdotal and out of date and is contradicted by the IAA site which states that an Aerial WOrks Permit holder may not carry passengers for hire or reward.

It's been a while since I was involved in the GA scene and I recall some sort of exemption or limited AOC may suffice. I may be completely wrong.

I have consulted someone with access to a suitable aircraft and they should be along here shortly with a reply.

Failing that an email to the IAA would clear things up.

I'd also suggest posting on the FII forums here http://www.flyinginireland.com/forum/index.php. Gerry is an active poster there too.

thanks everyone for so many helpful replies.

I do have a few friends in the IAA and I will get on to them when I have a better plan in place.

Right now I'm still trying to decide the right vehicle for the mission profile, which is our biggest challenge.

I think a little chat with beers in Weston is called for , find out what it is I need.

Just thinking back to Gerry, when we met him it was as a group of students about to take our written exams (too many years ago) and we were brought up to the canteen in EIWT for lunch. He kept us all enthralled with his stories and I must add to the general consensus that he is a Gentleman. I have never forgotten that lunch and doubt I ever will, even though I didn't speak a word.

Thank you again,
Fionn
