What can loss on shares be written off against. I have shares in AIM , NYSE & Irish stock exchange which are basically worthless now. When I sell these what can I write the losses against ? Is it possible to put against rental income etc ?

No - these losses are capital in nature. They can only be offset against other capital gains.

Can I carry these capital losses forward ? I read somthing before that Aim London exchange shares cannot be used for this purpose

I can see no reason why you cannot carry these losses forward. I would be interested to read the article you are referring to regarding the AIM though

+1, to whats said above. Call forward until you realise a gain to offset them against.

Haven't yet come across anyone with AIM shares to be honest.
