Replace 1 or all 4 coils on VW Golf

Looks like 1 ignition coil is gone on the 2004 VW Golf.

At 93000 miles do you recommend replacing just the faulty one, or all 4.

I have heard opinions saying to do just the faulty one.

    Any input welcome - thanks.

I reckon €45 per coil plus maybe an hours labour. I'd do it myself, but the car has already been towed to the garage.

I'd replace the faulty one only. :)

    I would replace only one.
Fact that one broke, doesn't mean that other 3 will also break soon. They might easily work for another 10 years.

Also 1 hour labour to replace coil seems very excessive.
5 minutes would sound bit more reasonable.

If the coil we are talking about looks like that, there are no tools needed at all to replace it.
Just unplug, take the old one off and put the new one.

1new coil will put stress on the other 3 but as cino said they could last a long time but usually when one goes the rest ain't far behind. You could buy a second one and keep it in the car incase you get stuck??

Start with the first one. If a second one breaks soon replace the last 3, imo.

A friend had 3 coils go in as many months on his 1.8T Audi, around 100k miles. The 4th coil is still going strong nearing 140k!
