    i've been asked to get a laptop for a friend of mine who wants it for herself and 11 year old son - will be for using skype internet and probably school projects .

    her budget is around the 400 mark .... since asus to me have a nice solid build i feel that something like this would suit .....

    any input would be appreciated

    oh i would upgrade the ram as part of my own christmas present to them

    that lenovo is pushing the budget out a bit tho - with the exchange rate these days .....

    You mentioned something about the school projects ?

    Faster cpu/ portable/better lappy overall and is available from your local Argos store

    Obviously is not the best laptop in the world but I feel that it would be perfect for your friend's son needs.

    thanks for that - i've looked at that one already - my priority would be the processor and the amd comes out better on the benchmark site

    school projects would be the least of the needs on it - what i would i would like to get for them is a solid build with a bit of speed for the price .... when i get my hands on it i would upgrade the ram and tweak the hell out of the os to make it run smoothly

    thanks for that - i've looked at that one already - my priority would be the processor and the amd comes out better on the benchmark site

    X401A comes with Pentium B970 dual-core 2.3Ghz and almost HD3000 level IGPU --> Average CPU Mark 1956

    AMD Phenom N660 Average CPU Mark 1828.

    Not much difference performance wise but my strong guess is that battery life is better with new gen Pentium than older AMD / runs cooler, less heat on a lap..?

    Pentium doesn't have Virtualization technology so forget it if you run virtual images

    thanks - argos are saying that it is an Intel Pentium dual core B950 processor so that's where i was coming from - not much difference in any of them so i'm going for the x4o1a - looks like a decent spec for a good price .... thanks everyone for the input ....
