Spotted this earlier, 260hp tractor for sale. Luv the bit where the ad says it was only used for "light work". What's light work for a 260 hp tractor??? Can't see it used for topping of turning hay with a hay bob.

Light work for that tractor is anyting u could want to do with it,220 hp with a power boost to 260 when needed and yes enonimical to the extent it can be compared to 140/150 hp tractor.....newish at the time tm140 would get through more diesel in the same day than this 8970....tm was actually having to work hard where as 8970 was just playing.both doing the exact same repeditive work.tractor is phisicaly bigger but with super steer front axle, very manuverable...take my word for it,i was driving the 8970,mate of mine owns the two of them....

what would she be like on the hills, i need a workhorse for slurry:confused:. she seems good value and in good nick. is there many of them in the country and are parts hard to get?

Well it's a new holland so there should be no problem getting parts. I'd say it would pull tanks of slurry all day for ya. How big is your tank?

It could probably pull the slatted tank out to the field! :D

as far as i know they were a great tractor but if the gearbox goes it could be 10k to fix them.

wouldnt be too many of them in the country so our local new holland dealer, ardagh services(very good) wouldnt keep many parts on the shelf but anything we ever needed,it came overnight...pulling tanks and hills no problem, powering tanker might be a problem though, this is my only fault with these tractors,no 540 pto only 1000...wasnt even an option when ordering new,540 only available on smaller model if u could see a way around this then tractor would be ideal for ur job...tractor weighs as it is now roughly 8 tonne with another 1 ton plus front weight, this was taken off the tractor the day it came and has been in back of shed since...deffinatly not for licking rushes:D tractor has same chasiss and cab as the challenger range of tractors, have to kinda look at it for a minute to see the simmelaritys.transmission made by FUNK (american/canadian) company,18 speed full power shift and ur looking at that kind of money for serious gearbox trouble on any of the big modern kit.... sorry about spelling

id say the supersteer on the axle will be great, come in very usful scraping around the ring feeders in the open yard.

I'd say it would be grand for someone with decent sized mixed farm though stick a big reversible plough on it for the spring and a trailed silage harvester or fusion in the summer.
