I just bought a Kia Picanto, i knew the booth was more or less pointless but like an idiot didnt think to check about a spare tyre.

just got it home and seen it has a crappy repair kit rather than a spare tyre.

does anyone know if it possible to buy a spare tyre for this car and squesh it in to the booth?

I have it about an hour and am thinking of just driving straight back to the garage and using my 7 day change of mind

A space saver is probably your best bet or try and get a full size replacement from a scrap yard. The standard size wheel is probably the same size as most space savers anyway. They are probably 13/14" in size. Your biggest problem could be trying to secure it in the boot so that it isn't flying about everytime you turn a corner.

Worst case you could try a Kia dealer and see if there is an aftermarket spare wheel kit available from Kia, will not be cheap though but would be the ideal solution probably.

I was reading an article about this recently, apparently lots of car manufacturers are just quietly phasing out spare wheels in favour of these terrible little repair kits (that only give you 20 miles and that you need to half fill the wheel, drive a bit, fill more etc....while leaving bits all over the road). In the UK over 80,000 calls to the RAC last year were because drivers discovered they had no spare tyre.

Id bring it back to the dealership tbh, its a bit ridiculous that you wouldnt have a spare for an emergency. There probably isnt even anywhere in the boot to keep a spare properly secured.

They are doing away with spares as they cost money, take up space and they add weight to the car which impacts Co2 ratings.

If the car didn't originally come designed from the factory with a spare then I doubt very much you will get any satisfaction from a dealer especially if it is a non Kia dealer.
