04 tdci Mondeo 130bhp cut out on me today and now won't start. Just went into the shop came out, started it up, reversed 2meters and it cut our. It will stay swinging over but won't fire. I scanned it with the torque app on my phone but no faults showed up. The glow plug light is flashing while it turns over.
Any ideas of what could be wrong

had a similar problem my self, driving fine then glow plug light and limp mode, turned out to be 2 injector's but you'd really want to get a proper diagnostic check done to confirm

The torque while a great piece of software only reads the generic codes and not what you need. Tdci mondeos tend to give problems with high pressure pumps and injectors, sometimes you'll get away with recoding the injectors but to get too that kind of area on the ecu.

Mine gave the same problem and was solved by a recode, however most people I know with mondeos ended up replacing injectors and high pressure.

But as said already a proper check will show where the fault is and a main dealer is probably the best place to go as their diagnostics will pick the fault, some of the high end Bosch can access the control unit needed. The ford lads will know when an where t

The 4 injectors were supposed to have been replaced in April before I got the car

Perhaps I'm stating the obvious but can't help ignoring the elephant in the room.... Timing Belt okay?

I guess it's not impossible for it to have slipped timing

Reading a bit about crank and cam sensors giving bother on these. anyone ever come across this?

You need to get it seen to, otherwise you"re just guessing.

You dont have to go to the main dealer as any decent independent will be able to give you a diagnosis. May be a relatively minor problem.

I had very similar problems and symptoms as you and it was the cam sensor.

But it could be the other more serious problems too as they manifest in the same way and symptoms are similar. The glow plug light flashing means a fault has been logged with the ECU so diagnostics should show - however when my cam sensor went the fault didnt log even though the light was flashing.

I would start with the cheap and common fault and change the cam sensor. They are only €10 to buy and take literally two minutes to fit.
the cranks sensor is a little more tricky. If the new cam doesnt solve it I would bring it in for diagnostics.

The 130s are more prone to injector issues than the 115s but lets hope not, The cam issue is really common on both.

Where did you get the cam sensor for that money

If the glow plug light is flashing then there is a fault logged in the PCM. You will need to get it scanned with a decent diag tool before doing anything else IMO.

It's only flashing when I turn over the engine not when the ignition is on George. Would that make a difference?

Not really Sean. It just means the code is being logged when the engine is being cranked.
