    Hey folks,

Will be spending a good few hours in both of the above in a couple of weeks, killing time and waiting on connecting flights. Anyone been in either before that could throw me a few pointers? - are they large airports? what sort of food is on offer? are they expensive? should I bring local currency? is wifi freely available? recommendations?

Any info would be greatly appreciated, cheers!

    J :D

Hong Kong airport is huge. it's the third largest airport in the world.
Free wifi as far as I know. Shops and restaurants there. If you want to buy things there, better do a bit change. If you have a bit more time, you can even travel a bit outside to see the bridge or the Big Buddha on Lantau Island. Enjoy!

Hong Kong airport - great - plenty of space, loads to do.
Dubai - hot, crowded and horrid. Even the business class lounge in Dubai is hellish.

Agree with both answers, bring euro and change what you need.

I've never been to Hong Kong Airport but Dubai Airport is horrible, rude security, massive queues and too many people in general.

There is no wifi in Dubai either. I just had a McDonalds in Dubai and it was cheaper than Ireland and I paid by Credit Card.

Still it wasn't the worst, I must reserve my title of worst airport for the LCCT (Low Cost Carrier Terminal) in Kuala Lumpur which Air Asia operate from. No air conditioning and it is just like a shed, extremely bad signage and a total lack of seating. After sitting on the floor for half an hour I got a free seat but when I saw a pregnant Malaysian woman about to sit down the floor I gave her my seat instead and had to sit on the floor for another 1hr there whilst connecting with Air Asia. It is a total kip of an terminal and in stark contrast to the full service KLIA Terminal where most airlines fly into, which is very nice and relaxed.

Thanks for the info folks!!! :D

By the way: do I need a visa to leave the airport in either Dubai or Hong Kong by any chance?

Once you have an Irish Passport you will get Visa free entry into both countries; 90 days for Hong Kong and 30 days for the U.A.E

    http://wikitravel.org/en/Hong_Kong#Entry_requirements
    http://wikitravel.org/en/U.A.E#Get_in

When simply transiting through the airports you will not get a passport stamp as you have not technically entered the country.

Dubai Airport is massive and a bit cramped. It had no free WiFi when I was there a few months ago but other than that it's alright.
