Hi all, I was just wondering does anybody know if ford are still using the peugeot 1.6 diesel engine in their focus? I have an 06 1.6tdci focus (peugeot engine) and I'm considering upgrading to an 08 or 09 but I do not want one with a peugeot engine (not the most reliable)! If they are still using pug engines I'm just going to go for a 1.8 diesel focus but I would like to stick with 1.6 for insurance purposes. Thanks in advance for replying!

All the same engines, albeit with minor upgrades, right up until the latest generation Focus.

Am I correct in thinking that this is actually a Citroen engine?

PSA = Peugeot/Citroen. All the same thing.

"PSA = Peugeot/Citroen. All the same thing."

    Yes, for many years.

But I remember being told onetime that the diesel engines originally came from the Citroen side. That Peugeot didnt build diesel engines.

So, I suppose what I mean is that the diesel tradition comes from the Citroen side of the company.
    Just a curiosity.

It could well be the case, although the current 1.6tdci/hdi engine would have no relation to anything that was around before the PSA partnership.

Yes, of course and I think the same could be said for any modern diesel engine. Common rail has changed the whole concept of diesel engines.

This 1.6 diesel, for all its conceived problems, must be one of the most widely used among various manufacturers so will go down as a major success.

I think, maybe, you could see a resurgence of petrol engine cars in the future due to new technology, efficiencies etc and the high cost of major cr diesel repairs. A lot will depend on how oil prices go in the future though.

    used in

    Suzuki
    Citroen
    mini
    ford
    mazda
    peugeot
    and volvo

and imo they wont go near the 10 year old mark. too weak a engine too many parts under too much pressure/tight tolerances.

petrols will come back as there currently better for short journeys and there will be a move to smaller turbo/supercharged engines that will have good power and very good mpg.

personally i prefer petrol. something very satisfying about reving a petrol hard. diesel just dont have that.
