Hi my mate has just moved home from England she's brought home a freeview tv. What needs to be got for this to work in Ireland? Will it be capable of picking up saorview without a saorview box? She already has a FTA satellite and aerial on her new house will she need to buy a seperate saorview box also?

She can use the Saorview box with the TV or if the TV is Freeview HD rather than simply Freeview, she should be able to pick up the channels without the use of the saorview box,

If she was able to pick up BBC HD ITV HD etc with her Freeview TV in England, she should be ok. Obviously, she'd need to hook up the TV to an aerial if this was the case.

If the TV is just Freeview, she'll need to connect the Saorview box.

So if I just hook it up to her old aerial and do a scan it should get the Irish saorview. Thanks a mil

Yes if the TV has an MPEG-4 video decoder on board, no if the video decoder is MPEG-2 (many Freeview only TVs have an MPEG-4 decoder). Attach the aerial and do a scan.

Will the aerial on the house receive Saorview? Did it receive analogue TV3/TG4 previously? (http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/step-2-check-aerial/)

Saorview STB required, TV cannot be upgraded.

Post the model no. of the TV.

Also, as I said above, be sure that the aerial is capable of receiving Saorview.

It's finding all the Irish radio channels but not the tv stations?

Looks like it's MPEG-2 only, STB will be required. Aerial appears to be OK.
