So what are the options to Westport from Dublin by public transport?

Cost, time and comfort options would be appreciated. Midweek travel out, with a return on a Friday afternoon. Will need to write up a presentation on the way back and could do with a beautiful toasted roll as I'll need a feed.

Otherwise, by bus, it's a matter of changing buses at Galway or Athlone.

You have to go all the way to Dublin to change to the sligo train so westport-sligo by train = 6 hours +

you could cycle it in less :)

The train is possibly the best option for this journey unless you were travelling with at least one other person which makes driving a lot cheaper.

The bus is a lot cheaper but you may not be able to work on board and those with continence issues may require the assurance of having a toilet available throughout the journey.

If you are hungry or think you might be hungry I would suggest bringing some sandwiches or filled rolls as what is available on the train is absolute muck.
