whittling, woodcarving and walking sticks

I am interested in finding out a bit about wood carving, I have done a bit of whittling in the past using the usual old trusty penknife but I would like to find out more about the proper tools required and methods. I have also made a few blackthorn walking sticks and would like to learn a bit more on it also

Many thanks, I had seen carving chisels etc on the internet but with so many different types and prices I didnt know which would be most suitable, I didnt want anything that was going to fall apart and at the same time didnt want to spend a fortune. That youtube video is a long way off from my abilities ha ha but just as you say give it time

i whittled a bit myself..and actually make a decent whistle from scratch..(thanks to google)fair play to you on the blackthorn stick id love to have a go at one.

The blackthorn I made didn't turn out too bad and I carved a few designs into it just using a penknife and varnished it up using ordinary yacht varnish, I will try to post a pic of it on here. I wouldn't mind trying a whistle or anything like that which is fun to do. I'm going to purchase a few chisels or maybe even drop a hint or to for Christmas and have a proper go at a few more projects
