Cycling - the rules

Comments

It's not only been posted here, but it's been learned by rote by some more dedicated members. The main thing is to remember rules 5 and 14.

    Rule. 47 most important

Some Ireland international kit has found its way into my possession. I did not earn it as I've never ridden for Ireland, on a bike anyway :) Is it permissible to wear such a garment...currently undecided. Beautiful quality though, super comfy.

Im new to cycling but was surprised that this was an issue when I saw something similar in another thread.
Some dickhead will be along to tell you that you shouldnt wear gear you didnt earn.
Some complete idiot might claim that someone who wears that gear without earning it is trying to fool people into thinking they were actually on the Irish team.
However, Ive never played football for Ireland or Arsenal and have wore the jerseys.
Wear what you want and dont worry about the it.
If you dont want it you can give it to me.

I love the parallels between rule 42 in cycling and GAA.

Yeah, a lot of B-S an nonsense there about what (not) to wear.

Anyway, I comply with the Rule nr 9, which comes naturally and Rule nr 25, also naturally. Although, I do not drive much with the bike on top. Pointless - cycle to get there is the way ;).

My wife thinks that I (we?) am a money wasting anorexic as it is:

"Good decorum when meeting a friend in the street is shaking hands. When introduced, look the person in the eyes and use a firm grip to express sincerity. On the bike this changes to a “How’s it going?” and then a compliment on weight loss, form or new component. Simple Courtesy."

This advice should NOT be followed. Leave it to the Australians.

Ideally you should be doing something that looks a bit like a track stand at the time. It's important to look casual.

My own personal rule- Always give the finger to the bastard who comes up your ass in his car and blasts the horn.
You should smile and wave, if it's friendly then they'll think you're acknowledging them, if it's hostile, they'll think you're mocking them.

I'm sure you're familiar with these rules aswell

    http://www.rulesoftheroad.ie/rules-for-pedestrians-cyclists-motorcyclists/cyclists/cyclists_other-road-users.html

Do cycle on cycle tracks where they are provided

Do cycle in single file if cycling beside another person would endanger, inconvenience or block other traffic or pedestrians

Do cycle in single file in heavy traffic

The site needs updating with the latest changes from Oct. There are more signs now that indicate cycle tracks and that cycle tracks are only mandatory in pedestrianized areas.

Anyone fancy a spin around Co Kildare at the weekend. Thinking of heading out around Naas. The roads are great. Ideal for a nice winter casual spin - you know plenty of two by twos. Having a carefree chat and a laugh while on the bike. May take in Millenium Park - apparently there is some savage milf out that direction.

Sounds good. I'll put on me wide handlebars. You know, the 88s.

The RSA have already published the Golden Rule for Cyclists ;)

".......don’t get into shouting matches with motorists......"

All other rules etc are subsidiary to the Word according to Gaybo......
