    hi guys and gals,

Where does everyone get their glass or perspex from for their cabinets?
Do you use glass or perspex?
What kind of price would i expect to pay for either?
And do you buy in place and get someone else to cut it to size?

If you use glass do you use toughened glass?
And what thickness would be a safe option?

    Cheers
    Danny

A lot depends on the type and environment the cab is used in.

Cocktails should have a toughened glass surface as people WILL be stuff on it. Perspex/lexan will scratch eventually in these situations.

I used perpex on the small bartops I've built as its perfectly adequate for this type of cab. Its easy(ish) to cut and work with, not too expensive and provides good protection for the screen.

It will be used on a bartop that kids will and drunk adults a like will be playing on.
obviously the drunken adults and kids wont be at the same time lol.

3 or 4 mm perspex should be grand B&Q sell sheets of it. And can be replaced easily if the drunk children wreck it :)

And what is the best way to cut them to size with out snapping or cracking?

I used to use a stanley knife to score the perspex a few times before bending it over a straight edge to break it, worked well most of time :)
Now I use one of those exact plunge saws to cut an nice straight edge quickly.

    Just found these guys.
I thinks they are reasonable price and cut to size so only pay for what you need with no waste.

    Based in ballymount near walkinstown.
Can get delivered for €45 or collect for free.

Collection was my preference for a 12 euro sheet of arcylic lol

Good prices alright, a lot cheaper than buying a full sheet.

    yea i thought so too.
i thought it would be handy for other people like me that are not the handiest of people and can get it cut to size without worry of messing it up. :D
