Help Renewing GNIB Card...

I have a two-year work permit; but last year when I went to the GNIB and got my card, they told me it was only valid for one year. I did this on Dec. 6th of 2011.

My card will expire on Dec 6th of 2012.

I've searched online but I can't find any place that tells me *when* I need to renew my card and *what* I need to bring with me. Can someone help me?

Can I renew my card now, or do I need to wait until this one expires on Dec. 6th?

What documentation do I need to provide? I don't have anything now that I didn't have last year - do I just bring the same stuff?

    Renewal
Before your GNIB card expires you should go to your local immigration registration office to renew it - see 'Where to apply below. You will need to bring your passport, your GNIB card and evidence to support your residence permission such a work permit.

    How hard did you look?

Seems really vague. If I go in one month before my card expires - will my new card expire in 12 months or 13 months? Since they are increasing the fees significantly on Nov 19th - wouldn't everyone rush to renew their card before then?

And if I'm only providing the same paperwork that I did last year - what is the point of this. What are they checking? If I'd quit my job after the first week - what is to stop me from getting another GNIB card and staying for two years?

I also looked at other sites like
    http://www.garda.ie/controller.aspx?page=31
    http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/Renewal_of_Green_Card_Work_Permit

    But I'm just not understanding.

But thank you for your link.

I would just go on the day it expires. I have always gone a few days after to renew my spouse GNIB card as its due right during the university student rush, so it's always way too busy.

I paid 150 for my GNIB card (de facto) in December of last year. Going to get it renewed but can't find the renewal fee anywhere. Will I have to pay the new 300 fee or is the renewal fee different than the registration fee? Thanks
