Should you include a personal statement on your cv? With your aims and goals?

If you should, how do I write one? I dont have a clue. And how many lines?

    Depends.

    I don't have one.

Some people put one in, literally a paragraph at the top of their c.v. with a summary of their background and skills.

I have one, but mainly because my current job title is a bit misleading (it wasn't my choice). It doesn't really reflect what I do, nor what I would want to do.

    Depends on the job.

Also don't have a load of management speak gobbledegook if you do chose to write one. It used to be (quite far down to be fair) my bin list when sorting CVs.

    Here You Go.

How to write a personal statement for your CV

I personal statement can be useful in several job seeking situations.
    • A change in career direction.
    • A jump up in responsibility
    • Pulling together disparate experience
    • For some creative Jobs
    • To add some direction to a weak CV

I personally don't like them because they are generally nonsense, e.g. "A goal oriented, dynamic professional who works well in a team as well as alone, etc., etc." and can take away from the factual aspect of a CV.

I think the cover letter is a better place for mentioning why you want the job you are applying for.
