The clown Police

I saw a couple of Guards on segways today in town ( Dublin ). I have to say, I think it looks ridiculous. They don't seem to go to go very fast, and the big awkward wheels on them, how are they supposed to chase a criminal on them, up and down pavements, negotiating the badly paved streets of Dublin.

I think they look like clown police.

Also saw a herd of chuggers, they are out in force lately, but thats a whole other thread !

Gardai being on Segways just looks stupid.

I read something about the positives of the police force being on them. I'm sure its a good thing for them... but man they just look stupid.

bet you any amount of money op that if you saw new york cops on sedgeways you would start a thread saying they looked cool and that our Gardai should have them

And they would have made it look a ****load more stylish too.

People wouldn't be making threads to poke fun at them.

They'd be zooming over to the house with the Gestapo in tow to arrest you.
That would knock the smile of the OP's face

Why is the collective noun for a group of stairs a "flight"?

Are there other inanimate objects that have collective nouns? A "bunch" of segways? A "tyranny" of ironing boards?

Saw the Chinese cops on what looked like 'native' (fake) Segways in Beijing. But at least they had wide squares and plazas to use them on. Doubt they would be much use down O'Connell street.

Thread disappoints. Had expected special Police units for regulating clown activities or Police dressed like clowns.

Unlikely, New York cops and actually New York itself doesn't impress me at all, they would still be police on giant wheels !

Now, if it was Jet Packs ! that might be a different story !

You're dead wrong. The Blue ones are petrol. All of them. Didn't come in diesel, ever.
