Am I entitled to claim JA?

I tend to waffle so I'll try and keep this to the point!

I was made redundant last year and was granted JB in January. I have received a letter that my JB is almost expired and to apply for JA. I have applied but am wondering if I'll get anything.

Me and my husband live in a house owned by my uncle. My husband is in receipt of the Back to Education Allowance. My uncle was not charging us rent. My uncle unfortunately passed away in August and left me the house in his will. Probate has not been granted so the house is not yet in my name.

When I filled in the online form applying for JA, I included my savings of €10,000, however I since discovered I need to pay a tax bill of approx €9,000. (Technically I have until next year to pay but I save money by paying this year)

Am I still entitled to JA? Will the social think it suspicious I have this large tax bill?

You are entitled to claim if you satisfy the conditions. The primary one being that you are available for and actively seeking full time employment.

Apply away, your savings are under the 20 limit.I have never noticed a question on any social welfare form about owing money.
