Hi guys, have been going through some family issues so I had to leave all the work until last minute and I am completely lost as English isnt my first language.
Ok, it goes like this: I am on the Back to Work Scheme, started in 2011. Got about 15,000 euro from the jobseekers allowance in 2010 and same in 2011. My business made only about 9,000 in 2011. My wife doesnt work at all, all she gets to her name is the Child Benefit Do I take teh earnings from the allowance into account? How will my preliminary tax be estimated? What tax should I expect to pay, Im guessing doing it online helps as it calculates it for you? Also is it until midnight tonight or midnight tomorrow night?
    Thanks for all thr help,

Do I even have to do it this year?

    1. Jobseekers allowance is not taxable (jobseekers benefit is!)
    2. If you received income from your business in 2011 you do have to file a return and the deadline is tomorrow at midnight.
    3. Child benefit is not taken into account.

    Good luck

Thank you! Also, what happens if i'm late with it? As in, a day late? Will i still ne able to do it online?

Best to burn the midnight oil and get it in. There are penalties including a 5% surcharge on the amount of tax payable for filing late. You can still file late on line but you might have to pay or go to the trouble of appealing the penalty.

As this is a commencement case the filing deadline is extended to 15.11.13

Yes indeed, but remember the tax is payable now.

Tax is payable at same time as filing deadline. No penalties or interest will be incurred.

    Hi Nouvelle,

Clarkey 1980 is right - as this is your first year you have a one year extension to file your tax return. We've both learned a bit.
