You can get mold spray to clean it as best you can, and then apply a stain block or anti-damp paint as a base, then paint your top coat over that. Also make sure you have sufficient ventilation in room.

Thank you TerrorFirmer for extremely quick reply :)

Is there a particular brand that you could recommend or store?

Any DIY store will have what you need, brands like Ronseal/International/Johnstones/etc. B&Q, Woodies, Homebase, etc would all have them.

If I were you I would first concentrate on finding out the cause of the mould before treating the symtoms.

i had a problem like yours for yrs, and it kept recurring after bleaching and repainting, i discovered that there was little or no insulation on ceiling of bathroom and it was the whole cause of my troubles, steam on a cold ceiling terrible,
so when you have bleached that black stuff off it is a fungus and repaint, go in attic and give it a good coating of insulation above bathroom, it should stop this problem, it did it for me

Try Zinnser Perma White. Google is your friend. Definitely worked for me in my bathroom.
