Did you have the key in the ignition when you were removing the seat?

If not then something isn't connected properly or a wire is damaged most likely which will need to be found before you can reset the light.

If you did leave the key in then it will have recorded the wires being disconnected as a fault which will need a diagnostic computer to reset.

Hi thanks for the reply. to be honest I cant remember if the key is in it or not. wires are fine was connected back up real easy just plugs in. so if it didn't knock off then I obviously had the keys in is what you're saying. how much to rectify this then?

It depends, some garages may charge you a diagnostic charge of maybe €50 or something or if you knew someone with VAG-COM or similar they could read/turn it off for you.

    Where are you located?

Are you in Dublin this weekend?

Same happened with my Golf. Funnily enough even just moving the seat can disconnect the airbag momentarily then reconnect. But the light will stay on. I got it turned off at a local garage for €20. It's relatively common. Now I'm ultra careful and completely avoid moving the passenger seat.

You could try disconnect the battery for a while. You might get lucky and the light could stay off. Just make sure you have your radio code if you do try

Has this ever worked for anyone Sean? :D i think it's an ld wives tail along with disconnecting the battery if you plan on plugging out airbags.

Seen it work on a grand vitara with a dpf light on the other day. Guy with a snap on diagnostic took tried to clear it and it couldn't be done. Said it would have to go on a main dealer machine but 20 min with the battery disconnected cleared it!

It's not hard to try. It's only open a battery terminal leave it while your eating your tea and go put it back on. If it works all good if it don't well it didn't cost you anything!!

Oh and vw recommend to disconnect the battery when your plugging out airbags. Twas in the guide for fitting cruise control anyway!!

You could solder the connections to stop them coming apart.

I did it on my car, as everytime you moved the seat with the engine on the chuffing light came on.

I'd say in Donegal you are guaranteed to be no more than about 5 miles from a vagcom at any time given all the lads that seem to mess around with Audi A4s in particular.

It doesn't work. I've tried this with my Golf. I eventually ended up getting the wires soldered and the codes erased.
