Insane In-laws! HELP!

I was wondering if anyone else has mental in-laws like myself? My mother-in-law is a witch! She is the most selfish person l know and does not care about my husband or kids. She is most likely a narcissist but of course she doesn't see this at all. Every conversation, get together has always centered around her and it got so taxing that l eventually stopped going to the get-togethers. Her selfishness is so deep its unbelievable. Just one example of this was when l got pregnant. My husband told her (as it was his mother) and asked her not to tell anyone. When we were at yet another get-together we were going to announce it to the family as a surprise but to our shock all the family and his friends already knew because she couldn't keep her mouth shut. There are more serious and shocking things that they, as a family, have done to myself and my husband but l couldn't post them on here. They are quite literally the IN-LAWS FROM HELL!! My husband has had to cut off all communication with them because they have messed with his head too much. Any of this sound familiar to anyone else?

Hi sullies, i can relate to you because i have an insane mother in law too!! My partner has stopped speaking to her as she is just poison and she cannot see anything wrong with what she is doing, take my advise and just stop putting yourself in a position where you need to be around her because your life is much better off with her in it. I know it might sound harsh but why be around somebody who makes you and your partner feel like this.

Thanks, you are so right. It took us 7 years to finally say enough is enough. What a release it is too. Its comforting to hear that someone else has similar experiences and that its not just us.

I totally know what you're going through!
but i heard a quote and its changed how i deal with the mother in law.
"you can call me a bitch, but you'll be calling me it from a distance!".
sometimes people have to be drama queen attention seekers, just dont give them the time, and cut drama out of your life and let your husband bring the kids, do occassions with his side of his family, until she has the respect to treat you properly

Hi Sullies - welcome to PI/RI.
Please note this forum is for advice on an issue. If you just want to vent or get similar stories then RI is not the right place. Do you want to expand on your relationship with your MIL and focus in on where you need / want some advice?

    Thanks
    Taltos
