    I'm hoping someone can give me an opinion on whether the stone in the top two pics is flint or not?

    The pics arent as clear as some of your others so its a bit hard to see. However, from the fractures alone I would say its safe to say that they are indeed flint.

    I am guessing the variance may be down to 2 main factors... the depositional environment (soil Ph, water acidity, exposure to other minerals etc) and the type of flint.

    Only a semi-educated guess...
