need some advice about my toyota :/

when i got my '98 avensis, 1.8, petrol, lean burn, it was laying for good while , before i took her.
i did oil, oil filter, sparkplugs, air filter change. also thermostat was knackered, was stuck open ... lucky me. , changed.

when i went to work, i discovered that a lot of white smoke going out from exhaust.... as i have some mechanical background, i understood, that that smoke is a bit too light for headgasket failure, and it didnt smell at all, so it was steam... a lot of water in exhaust.

as i was working in night, there is pretty big closed in night time carpark, also tires was too bad for nct, i was planing burn tires to ground, also check what the clutch look like and engine.

well, i did harsh driving with smoky tires, and side slides, and spins.... i saw that in panel green eco light flashes. i dont know what it did mean, so didnt bother.

after that hard drive, no steam going from exhaust.

Now.... i did read in other forum, that that green eco light shall be on.... but in my case it turn up just when engine hit red line, while goin sideways. .... not proper public driving style though.

Could somebody explain me about that green eco light, when it shall be on, or behave ... as i never seen it again.

Also by fuel consuming, it takes 25 -26 mpg, as other people, who drives with green eco light, says , they have over 40 mpg  ... so i am consider pop in professional diagnostic garage, ... might somebody would connect to computer, do some readings, and see if sensors working within limits.
i had computer diagnostics, not professional,. just to see error codes, if any, but nothing was on.
    Car passed NCT. emissions grand.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

actually, while analyzing all other problems, i am more than sure now, catalytic converter is FOKED !!!!!
ratling in middle box .....( exhaust, from cat is new).... and rattling would be sign of pieces of cat fell out, and stuck in middle silencer....

    damnnn....
soon will get that catalytic converter out, will see...

It wouldn't pass NCT with broken/blocked/burnt out catalyzer.

About green ECO light - what's in owner's manual?

You did the right thing - Japanese petrol engines like high revs very, very much (really), so they need to be turned up frequently.

I realise most of people don't do that - because of fuel consumption as well as any other fears. ;)

And yes, it's highly recommended to visit someone to read full diagnostics.

By the way - mine is rattling as well. Passed NCT, still have factory fitted catalyzer, in perfect condition. 270 000 km done on it. :P
