Kill out % in grass cattle

    Any of you know what kill out % 800kg r grade ch bullock would come in to .Getting meal .Good pinch on him.Neighbour has one but does not know if should go to factory or mart .Me thinks he should go to mart as not many of those stock around and could do well.Would imagine if he rocked up to the factory with one bullock they would give him sweet f a

    I use a rule of tumb that an R+3 animal will kill about 55% and for ever point they go up or down in grade they will increase/decrease by 1%.If they go into fat score 4 they increase by 1% and if they go down into fat score2 they will decrease by 1%. Bulls would kill about 1-2% better than that.

    I do not think that any bullock will kill up on 60%.

    The old folks around me say that too. We weighed and killed good Chx heifers a few years ago and worked out that they killed out at 56 -57%.

    You could be right there Bob for my calculation that would be an R=3- (60/112=53.5%). Them ould charlois are bad to grade anyway if they are off fresians or charlois cows
