    Hello,
I am in a state with Saorview since the change of CH number from CH 45 to CH23...At Mount Leinster.
I am a UPC customer and as you all know upc are still transmitting a selection of the analog channels..which i still recieve with very good picture quality. But i also have an indoor amplified aerial picking up saorview channels on CH45 (as seen on my Ariva 250 menus). i did need to use a special diplexor (Triax diplexor TFC 3537). This allowed me to join the signals from UPC with the signals form the saorview aerial and allow all signals travel on one down lead (coax lead) to my distribution amp..and all channels (analog and digital) worked fine using saorview compatiable TV's and /or Ariva 250 boxes.

    BUT:

Now with a change to CH23 at Mount Leinster i dont recieve any Saorview channels..and i assume its cos the diplexor isnt allowed to work as before.....because the new saorview channel No. of 23 is probabrly used in analog mode aswell...so both analog and digital now use CH23 in my area....so confusing the signals.

    SO

would it be possible to cure this problem, and get saorview channels back using the existing system by using a modulator.....??
My thinking is if i retune the amplified aerial to recieve the Saorview channels..on CH23 from Mount Leinster..and input the aerial coax lead into the "RF input" on the modulator...can i set the modulator to output the signal on"RF out" using CH45....???
And would this mean the diplexor would recognise a signal on CH45....And so i would have channels (analog and digital) back on my tv / ariva 250 boxes....??? (this would be without changing or re arranging my cabling throughtout the house...)And that would be fantastic.....And with pictures working again.....???
    Thanks for any help.....Billyie

There is no domestic equipment available to do what you want. The best you could manage with a domestic modulator is to feed it the scart output from 1 of your receivers & distribute this as an extra analogue channel.

Check if channel 23 is in use for the UPC services. If not, you could try an ordinary combiner/splitter, rather than the diplexer.

A modulator will not do what you propose. A modulator would be used with a Set Top Box to send the ONE channel being received on the STB to other TVs as an analogue signal.

If you have only analogue cable (no digital cable) service try replacing the diplexer you have at present with a common VHF/UHF diplexer (Cable to VHF, Saorview aerial to UHF).
    - most TV shops should have them.

Some higher frequency cable channels may deteriorate or worse but you will regain Saorview.

    PS
Only saw Peter's reply after mine. An ordinary combiner/splitter might work OK but could also let in other interference to cable channels from the aerial

    What town/city is this???
Someone here might know the frequencies used by cable there???

hi and thanks for ya replies........
a bit dissapointed about the answer RE: use of modulator not gonna do what i need......

but thanks..i will try a standard splitter and see what happens to both analog and digital channels in the use of this standard splitter..might get a nice surprise..but might also get nothing or badly deteriated pictures......But thanks....
If any other ideas come to yu....pleae let me know.... especialy if it allows me to use the system as is..on one downlead(co ax)

    Regards Billyie

The reason this is happening is because that particular diplexor is seperating the frequency bands according to input.

    • Input 1: 47-590 MHz
    • Input 2: 598-862 MHz
Ch 23 is 490MHZ. Unless you have a aerial also connected to Input 1 then Saorview will not work. (It worked perfectly when Saorview broadcast on 666MHZ on Input 2). Infact this Triax unit is of no use now whatsoever. It is only confusing you.

Have you tried just using a splitter ?

    Hi STB,
ya dead on....you have hit the nail on the head regarding my positon ......and that diplexor is now absolutely useless....
It was bought with the set up that was presented to me at the time....and it was an excellant piece of equipment....but as you say..its usles to me now...
if its of any use to any one here.......just ask ....
I havent done much testing yet....but will try the aerial into leg 1 of that
diplexor and se what happens...then will se if i can add the existing upc analog channels also onto leg 1 of the diplexor..and se if that messes up things..or not....
and i could try a standard splitter to se what happens in terms of analog and digital channels mixing ..may work..or might mess up things also.....Thanks again for all ya help..

Just to reply...... some one asked where i was postioned...I am in waterford city..Thanks.

Have you checked Channel 52 ? Some parts (WIT area) of Waterford City receive Saorview on Ch 52 from Suir Valley. Most seem to be served by Gallows Hill on Ch 22 (no help either) or Mt Leinster.

Hi STB.....did a test for Ch 52 (siur valley)..and with an outdoor Aerial looking towards WIT direction (im around the viewmount /Dunmore Road area....) I got a medium signal and quality levels on my tv signal bar graph.... and a stable picture for all Saorview channels.....
But with the introduction of a 1 way distribtution Amp (1 co ax in and 1 out).... the signal and quality levels are boosted to full 100%..so im sure i have a safe signal no matter what the weather....So I am confident of saorview channels going forward.
so brillaint help..... Thanks a million...... Billyie.

Excellent news. So the diplexor will continue to be of use then.
