Ok have been looking for a decent 70-200mm for my Canon 60d & 5d mk2.

Funds are slightly limited so have narrowed it down to the Canon 70-200 f4 L or the sigma 70-200 f2.8. Both are non OS models so faking this into consideration can anyone here offer a recommendation as to the better of the two. I'm leaning towards the sigma as it should improve my low light shots but I'm worried about build quality etc that the canon lens will have at the expense of only going down to f4.

Mainly I want the lens for mostly day shots but like to take a few shots at gigs.

    Advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd go for the Sigma if I were you. The extra stop especially on a lens with no IS will be invaluable especially at 200mm when camera shake can come into play.

Thanks for the reply. It looks like the sigma is as I thought the better lens for the job. I would love to be able to spunk €1200+ on a canon 70-200 f2.8 is lens but the hobby fund doesn't allow for that :(

Is the sigma build quality good? There's a few mixed reviews on the web but these are mainly by pros.

I swapped my F4L for he 2.8 sigma long ago and never looked back. The fella I traded with took some pics and sent me the full res ones at 2.8 and F8 (as did I for him) and I could compare edge softness etc etc. I'm very happy indeed with mine I have to say. If you can check those things out then you will get a good copy

There was a beat up F2.8L on adverts a few days ago for smallish money might be worth checking out.
