multifuel boiler stoves

I have recently installed an inset multifuel boiler stove and as the house is newish with a clay lined chimney I didn't line it at all. Problem is the chimney breast gets extremely hot if I put on a good wood fire. The supplier told me to line the chimney of course, but then I wouldn't know how much heat is being lost up the chimney.
    Any suggestions.
