As the title says, what is your drink of choice?

For me, it really depends on my mood. A perfect pint of Guinness is the way to my heart. It's hard to find that in the states but I did find one place which can fill this requirement.

I also love Belgian trappist ale. Triple Karmeleit is the nectar of the gods!

Over the past few months I have been drinking whiskey, and lots of it. Midleton, Connemara Peated 12 year old... Oh baby. And of course Johnnie Walker Black is my every day drink. Johnnie Walker Blue is so smooth, it makes life worth living.

If I had to chose I would say Connemara is my favourite drink. What's yours?

Don't really drink alcohol very much - maybe 3/4 times a year... then it will depend on where I am/mood...could be G&T, could be Murphys, could be whisky (yes, whisky - my preference is for peaty Scotch) mainly I drink coffee - lots of coffee.
If I am drinking 'instantcoffee' ( a distinct drink from 'coffee' imho) then it's Douwe Egberts pure indulgence, if it's coffee then it's Lavazza.

You can't beat a good beer, Staropramen, Erdinger. Murphy's Red is a very tasty drop too.

I'm also partial to a dram of nice whiskey. It has to be the good stuff though; Lagavullen or Glenfiddich, none of this Powers lark.

I'm a sucker for whisk(e)y. I'm quite partial to a drop of Green Spot or Redbreast. I've gotten into the habit of popping over to Edinburgh for a few days every year or thereabouts, and I always make sure I come back with a bottle of something I've never tried before. That said, I'll always come back to the Balvenie Doublewood and Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. Nothing like sitting by the fire with a port cask matured scotch in the depth of freezing winter.

Beer-wise I'm the same, I love trying new things. My latest favourite is an ale called Wee Heavy, but I'll happily flit between weissbier, ale, stout, pils, IPA... Whatever I like. I'm not a huge fan of really hoppy stuff, but every now and then you find something where all the flavours just work together, you know? Brewdog and Shipyard are making me quite happy of late.

Sometimes though you just want a nice G&T. Cork Dry is quite nice. Bombay Sapphire a little nicer. I recently discovered a place in Cork with a list of about 15 different gins on offer, I'm going to have to check that out soon...

oban distillery only edition, redbreast, nikka, midleton. i like knappogue too.

if you like whiskey, you should try innis & gunn beer, which is aged in whiskey casks. you wouldn't drink much of it, it's very sweet.

kylith, powers is a perfectly respectable whiskey; it's the best of the 'cheap' stuff.

also, there's a new irish cider made by a crowd called orpens. highly recommended.

Red Breast, Glenfiddich 12 or 15, Blackbush or anything from the Cooley distillery. At a push I'll go for a Crested 10.

Mostly beer when I'm out. Was in the US recently so I drank a lot of Yuengling. It's scrumptious. Pity they don't make enough of it. Don't think you can get it in Ireland.

Whiskey with lots of ice is quite nice. Jameson usually.

Irish stout and most whiskies, especially scotch whisky. I love Guinness, and it's my staple drink, but when I can get my hands on other brands of stout I'm even happier. Give me some Dark Arts, Wrasslers, Oyster, even Murphy's or Beamish, and I'm a happy man. Along with stout, I love a good single malt Scotch whisky; I've tried dozens of brands and each is as nice of the last, though I find I drink Glenfiddich more often than most others — probably because it's the most widely available. The only downside is the price, which can be prohibitively high if drinking in a pub, so it's better to buy a bottle for yourself and enjoy it at home beside a nice open fire.

Sarky: I think I read a comment of yours in some other thread where you mention a book on whiskey. What is it? I'd like to get a nice whiskey-drinkers book.

Probably a little pocket guide I got for Christmas last year. No idea how "good" it is, but it has mentioned a few of my favourites and given me clues as to what else I might like, and it's nice and compact. I'll dig up the details when I get home.

On a similar note, I'd really recommend any of the stout-lovers here to pop in to the fran well in Cork for a go of Shandon Stout. I think it's fantastic stuff, right up there with Oyster. Makes Guinness/Murphys seem a bit watery and bland by comparison.

a very affordable and very nice whisky is the glen garioch founder's reserve - about €35 a bottle in the celtic whiskey store.
also affordable and well worth the price of admission is the nikka from the cask - sold in 500ml bottles.

My drink of choice is to switch regularly. I get bored easily and switch from Weissbeer to Cider to occasional Lagers. I also switch throughout a night usually to sweeter and sweeter spirits/liquors or Alcopops and highly disagree with the rule that one shouldn't mix their drinks. Years ago after a night's work in a bar my favourite thing was to make up my own cocktails to test.

I guess the only drink that sticks with me throughout the changes is tequila. The closest thing to something that deserves worship.

The weirdest drink I tried lately, after reading a character's fondness for it in a comedy book, was scotch and gummy bears. Actually not bad and the gummy bears at the end were delicious.

I'm shocked to see so few Lager drinkers here by the way maybe there is some correlation between belief in deities and lager drinking!

Probably worth noting that whiskey was the reason I started looking into tobacco. I find a nice scotch is improved immeasurably when you're smoking a decent cigar or pipe alongside it. Also, it lets you pretend you're really sophisticated and rich.

I substituted vodka for beer when trying this initially and yes I did try it.

If you want something that tastes like skittles take a pint glass with some ice, throw in a measure of southern comfort, top up with a bottle of smirnoff ice and then some blackcurrant cordial.

Quite tasty.
