    Hi,

I got stopped by the guards this morning for making a left turn on a road where you are not meant to turn between 7-10 (they had a checkpoint and were stopping everyone doing this). I asked if i would get penalty points and he said id get a fine but didnt know if id get penalty points. It was from one minor road to another, will i be getting points?

I had a look at RSA site and can see 1 point for 'Failure to comply with prohibitory traffic signs' or 'Failure to comply with mandatory traffic signs at junctions' or 'Failure to obey requirements at junctions, e.g. Not being in the correct lane when turning onto another road' are any of they applicabel or is there points due under a different offence?.

    Thanks for any assistance

I would have thought that it would fall under either of the first two listed there to be honest.

Yep, I got 1 point for this before. Pretty sure it was listed as making an illegal turn.

At least its only one point (hopefully). He was standing there with an A4 pad stopping every car making the turn and taking their details. I drove by half hour later and he was still there with piles of cars pulled over. On his own aswell.

Yes i asked him would I be getting points and he said a fine definitely but he wasnt sure if i'd get penalty points!!

I got the letter in the door yesterday for a 60 euro fine and 1 point. However the letter was addressed to a totally different name (however the time/date of incident and my reg details were correct). Is there any way I can/will get away with this?

If you don't pay the fine, you will get a summons. You can go to court and try to argue, but usually they will adjust incorrect details on the spot in court, and you will then have a larger fine and more points.

You were wrong. Accept it, pay the fine, and take your point.
