    Hi,

I have moved to Canada for a year and maybe more. Can i claim tax back for the time i worked in Ireland? When i was working i received a couple of bonus's which were taxed heavily so i think i can get that back cant i? Advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

When you say that you have moved to Canada "for a year or more", I take it that means that you were ordinarily resident in Ireland up to that point? In particular, you were resident in Ireland when you earned the money on which you have been taxed?

Any refunds of tax vary from person to person as they are based on your circumstances (how much taxable income earned in a tax year; married or single renting etc) In your case there is also a question of residence. The only people who can answer if you are entitled to a refund is Revenue.

During your last year of residency you may have had your tax credits and tax bands applied as if you would be here for the full year but you only worked in the country for less than a full year.

If this was the case you may be able to claim back some of your salary.

I'm in the same boat. I think I have to wait til the end of the tax year to claim it back though? If I only worked in ireland from April until September, one of my mates said I can claim back most of the tax I paid....

That being said, most of my mates are idiots....
