    Hey all,

Ok, I am currently making a hexagon quilt from tee-shirt material for my partner for Christmas. 'm using all my memories from watching and helping my gran do this years and years ago, plus what i can glean from the net... :D

I have a fleece blanket as the backing (because she adores fleece!) and so I'm unsure if i need to add some kind of batting? It seems like it might be ok as is. I need to keep costs down A LOT, so if the batting is unnecessary then that'd be really great...

I think fleece and cotton knit (teeshirts) would make a nice cosy quilt, whether you put any more filling in is entirely up to you. I suggest you find a way of fastening together the top and backing at least at intervals so it doesn't twist - stitching, tying or buttons.

That's what i'd been thinking, i'm doing hexagons so I was thinking sewing some buttons in the middle of some of them dotted around might look really nice... I have a giant jar of odd buttons so it might look cool

Hi, i'm also a quilter and have used fleece for backing. You can still baste your top and backing in the usual way, but minus the batting!!! I have tried this myself and works out really well.
