    Hi,
I recently bought my first car and as no one else in my family drives I'm kind of stuck on a few things.

Its a 2000 Ford Ka and I'm still on my provisional licence, just wondering which insurance company would be the best?

I also need to change the car ownership over into my name. I have the Pink booklet that i need to fill in and send off but it wasn't signed by the owner. Should this be sent back to be signed by the owner yes?

    Thanks

Really depends on the person. They'll all provide third party cover at the minimum. Break out the golden pages and ring them all. I got cheap cover off 123.ie a while back

As for the ownership of the car? You need to fill out this form. Its a little bit more awkward with out the log book. Don't send away the original log book.

EDIT: You only need to sign the declaration if you cant get in contact with the old seller or if they're not known to you. If you can sign the log book, do but don't go sending it off to some random person if you know what I mean.

Thank you! I'll start calling tomorrow and hopefully get a good offer.

No, I have the Log book to send away, but it wasn't signed by the person i bought it off. Do you think i could just sign it for them? or would I need to send it back to them to sign?

Do you know previous owners ? there on logbook have to be old owners address, if you go to them and get signed, it would be best and honest option, but if you sign for them, then is possibility that car been stolen , and you may be charged for forged signature .

you can get quotes , but i think insurance will NOT let you get insurance on somebodies car, youll get insurance, when car will be on your name. ... dont know for sure though.

    Edit:

p.s. welcome on board :) wish safe and trouble free motoring :)

Its the registration certificate i have not the log book actually!
There's a page at the back of it were it can be signed to change ownership.
I'm thinking if i just fill it in and then post it to the previous owner to sign and then send it off. Hopefully that will work!

The log book belongs to the previous owner, not you. You fill in your information but it is up to them to sign it and send it off the Shannon. You will then recieve a new log book with your details on it.

My advice would be to fill out your information and send it back to the person that you bought the car off. Let them sort it out from there.

Have you got someone to accompany you when driving?

Are you aware of the penalties if caught driving alone?

Hi Ciara. I suggest you ring the Dept of Transport & check out the proper procedure. What happens if you send this document to the previous & they ignore it. Until the car details is changed into your name the previous owner is responsible. You wont be able to insure it until it is in your name. Have you known the previous owner.

You can also sign an affidavit regarding when you purchased the car, have it witnessed and then send it to Shannon
