Adding boiler stove to a Gas home heating

    Hi,
We have a gas boiler and are looking to change to a boiler stove. There are ten rads and hot water tank (obviously) that we want to run off it. The house was built in the last 6 years ( if that makes a difference)
We are starting to go looking at stoves and stuff, but what are the pertinent questions we should be asking in the store. Do we need to add TRV's to the rads to make it worthwhile. Also seeing as I definitely wont be doing any of the work myself, would anyone have recommendations for installers in the Athlone area (by PM only). And finally what kind of money would we be talking here for everything. I'm thinking €3k-€4k or would that be way out
    Thanks

Record all your rad sizes note singles and doubles and bring it the stove shop.

If you see a stove that says it will heat 10 rads it most likely means it will heat heat 10 900mm x 500mm single radiators. If you have a lot of doubles you may get caught out on stove size.

Give the list to shop and ask them for a stove that will heat your 10 rads.
Be careful with trv's on a solid fuel system has you are trying to get rid of heat out of the boiler. If all trv's were turn down low you could get in to trouble.

Multi fuel stoves are for all stove fuels.

Timber stoves are for timber and turf only and are cheaper.

+1 Do not fit TRV's on a system with solid fuel.

    Thanks guys,
Surprised about the TRV's I would have thought they would be better as you could turn off the rad in the sitting room and turn them down in the kids rooms (don't want their rooms boiling) and up in the hall/stairs/landing etc.
Good advice about measuring the rads too, never thought the size and whether they were single or double would matter that much
