ABS / Traction control module may have gone faulty. Known issue for this car, and if this car is in the uk he may be in luck as I had heard that volvo uk were doing the replacement for either free or cost. My borhter had a V50 and had the same bother intially cost him 1k euro but eventually got most of the money back from volvo.

ok thanks you mean main dealers are doing a recall but if not covered by volvo can u just fit a second hand unit etc

I don't think there is a recall. Repairs are done on a individual basis. Modules are interchangeable , so a second have unit can be installed if one goes faulty. I also think that there are repair services online that will do the repairs for little money. However before you go to this you will need to check the trouble codes as it may also be a sensor, like speed sensors on the wheels, or brake fluid level sensor (had a little issue with this one on a E46 once).

If it is the usual brake pressure sensor fault then it should be possible to get it sorted in a few hours for around €350 all in. The part is very expensive from Volvo (circa €800 IIRC) so don't go down the dealer route unless they are doing it FOC.

Ford will sell the same part for cheaper than volvo if its the uaual fault that GD pointed out..

well rang Agnew main dealer in northern ireland and they said they never even heard of a recall of this abs module fault(which was really strange as common fault)
I probably could get the module cheaper but im told its difficult to remove/fit and its needs programming by main dealer when fitted

If it is just the brake pressure sensor (and is more than likely is) then there is no programming required as the electronic side of the unit isn't changed. All you need is a diagnostic tool to clear the fault code after the repair is carried out.

now selling the car so i could pick one of these up secondhand from scrapyard

The part is quite cheap new from Ford so you aren't going to save a huge amount by going down the secondhand route.
