Definitly the dell ones, nearly twice as powerful as the others.

1.6ghz is brutal by todays standards on the other ones.

why don't you start with what you want it for?
Does it need a dvd drive?
    how big screen?
    how much is budget?

It's not necessarily about clock speed, its the underlying architecture that counts, for example a slower Core i5 will generally outperform a faster Core i3 due to architectural differences (e.g. the i3 will not turbo boost to higher clock speeds).
Anyway, the Dell looks a good deal once you add in the 10% discount from here:
    http://www.voucherpages.ie/dell

and the next business day on-site warranty is nice to have.

What about the fact that they have a solid state drive though?

Well, it's an investment for the next couple of years. Budget - certainly not going above a 1,000. Screen - I am aiming for a machine that weighs around the 1.5kg, so probably a 13 to 15 screen. It doesn't have to have a DVD drive, although it would be no harm! I need it for college, probably to run programs, possibly for gaming (but that would be the very last thing in the list and would not dictate what I buy), portable, an investment, relatively good battery life.

Vouchers!! Can you use that discount online?

Are there discounts for any of the other companies?

It has both, a 32gb solid state drive for the operating system and programs and a 500gb hard drive for storage. It weighs 1.7 kgs but this weight is not taken up by the hard drives, they hardly weigh anything. Theres probably lighter ones out there though. Have a look in Dabs Komplett and Hardwareversand

Thanks, I'll have a look at both of those. I'll see if I can spot any SSD ultrabook.
