Hey guys, I'm about to buy my second acoustic guitar and was wondering what acoustics you would recommend? I'm fairly experienced as i've been playing for 8 years now and play in a few bands also...I was looking at a Taylor, Gibson, Takamine etc...Looking to spend not really anymore that 2 thousand. Also do you know anywhere decent to go in and try them out in Ireland? Thanks guys!

Exchequer St. in Dublin would be my first destination.

I've never played a Gibson acoustic that I've liked.

For two gs I'd get a Martin D-28 without hesitation but you might not be after a dread.

Any idea what kind of body style you want?

Thanks alot, i'll check it out :)

Gibson don't seem to have as good a rep on acoustics as Martin and Taylor...

Yeah im looking at the dreads or jumbo, probably edging towards the dread as i'd only really get a jumbo if it was Gibson.
Do Takamine compete with Martin or Taylor?

At that level, I don't know about Takamine. For obvious reasons, Martin is the king of dreadnoughts. But it depends what you play - personally, I'd never go near a jumbo. Taylor guitars are also amazing, but you might also look at Lowden if you're willing to drop the cash. Another option, and purely a choice thing, is to investigate Maton guitars - Australian and stocked by Guitar Centre on Exchequer St. They're very passionate about guitars, but I would also spend time talking to the guy in Perfect Pitch. He'll give you all the time you need if you're a serious buyer.

What style(s) do you play anyway? That might guide people's advice? Always, let the sound and feel guide your decision, not the badge.

Yeah, i think im mainly out for a decent dreadnought acoustic.
I'll check out Exchequer St. thanks...
Mainly acoustic style, Just really looking for a decent acoustic that i can play typical oasis etc...on :)
I was planning on trying the guitars out in the shops and then maybe ordering it from Thomann in Germany for alot cheaper than they go for here, do you find much differences in the prices?

I personally prefer Taylor guitars but again that could be personal taste. The pricess on Taylor shouldn't differ too much as they try to standardise their products them across europe. Also I would never ever consider buying a high end acoustic like that online. I would have to play every guitar before buying it especially so with acoustic guitars. The quality, wood and finishing can vary even on high end guitars especially when tlaking about acoustics. Thomann dont actually seem to sell taylor anymore. Keep an eye out for a good second hand taylor and you should be able to find perhaps a 714ce in your pricerange but they dont come up too often.
