Advice on weinmarener ??

Hi does anyone have a weinmarener that can tell me temperament , habits, if they bark much etc?
I am athletic so exercise won't be a problem, I do shift work so between myself and my partner they would only be left for 1.5 days on there own altogether through out the week if even.
I have a bichon that I rescued and she is extremely needy and barks a little(not as much as other bichons) but is aggressive towards other dogs but only when out walking. I do not want weinmarener to pick up these habits!
Someone I know is 'getting rid of' weinmarener puppy so I want to take it , I've always looked at getting a German pointer-are they alike?

This is not meant to be negative in any way but I thought you might as well learn how they're really called.

Weimaraner. From the german town Weimar.

Why are they getting rid of the pup for starters?

Ive known two weimaraners, owned by a friend

lovely temprement, no issue with either re other dogs, but they were more interested in doing their own exploration when out and walking

the only barking was territorial when they heard a noise from outside their home, protective type

    good luck

I havent owned one, but the two I have known only barked when someone came to teh door, fireworks etc they both had a deep gruff bark but then they are big dogs

but I cant say they barked a lot, mind you, the owner had them well trained and spent a lot of time getting them to behave how she wanted

I have a 5 month old one, doesn't really bark ever, maybe one or two barks if someone comes to the door.
Even at that it might be once every five times someones at the door.
Hopefully he won't develop a barking habit

Very good temperment, friendly to everyone so far :)

They can be a handful if not socialised fully as a pup so worth checking out what you're getting

Very intelligent dogs who need a LOT of exercise and need to be well-socialised. Training would be important as well, as they are well-capable of winding you around their (very elegant) paws!!

Great guard dogs, and lovely temperment.

    Re: barking!!!

I wonder where you read that? I know a person who has two + thats not.anything like.them.

Unlike.bichons.( im.guessing!).Ws have.huge.energy.needs - think.two walks every day.each a long one! Of.course when.they are.pups and for the first year you shouldnt walk them for longer than ten or so minutes or they might end up with.bone problems.

If your Bichon is that badly.trained/ socialised is getting a.W.really a good idea? They are.big powderful dominant dogs that will need continuous training + management.

Getting one free isnt the.best reason to make the .decision for taking on such a.high maintenance dog.

Why do you think I read that somewhere? I personally knew some Weinmaraner owners when I lived in London and used to exercise my Dobies with them. The owners would tell you that they are intelligent and need lots of training, exercise and socialisation...

London's way easier than here to have dogs, much more dog friendly parks, a much more 'dog friendly' attitude in general, plus huge selection of dog walkers to choose from if you're working and dogs are home alone, personally I'd move back there in a heartbeat if circumstances allowed!!

My partner and I have six dogs, a great dane, bullmastiff, dalmatian, labrador, chihuahua and a 1 & 1/2 year old weimaraner and by far the weimaraner is the best of the bunch!!!!!

Hes loyal, well behaved, rarely barks, great with kids, disciplined and a brilliant working dog.

I kniw the thread is old but i would recommend one to anyone!!!
