Hi Guys i have a quick question for those who know about renewing gardai cards , I had a stamp 2 GNIB and it expired in September , I then applied to defer my course until next year 2013 because i am having financial difficulties and today i got a letter saying it has been granted ..If i take this college letter to the GNIB office will i be able to get my GNIB Card renewed or does my status change in any way ?

AFAIK you will not be granted a visa for this year, not as a student anyway, as you are not a student for the year. You could possibly apply for a working/holiday visa, but I'm not too sure of that procedure. GNIB have become increasingly strict over the last few years. I know the ins and outs of student visa applications backwards (its my job), <MOD SNIP>, I'm not great with other types of visas, but know a little about them.

Maybe ask The Migrant Rights Centre Ireland or Crosscare Migrant Project for more information

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Sounds like your status has changed, you are an illegal now as an overstayer.
It might affect your future visa applications's not only for Ireland, but for the whole eu.
I doubt you will be entitled to stay on in the country, until you qualify for Stamp 2 again. Unless you are from a country that qualifys for WHV, or you can organize an internship through your college.
Talk to someone about the issue asap. You might not be allowed to come back and finish your degree. If you continue to breach the conditions of your visa.

They won't renew your GNIB card/stamp 2 visa because you're not a student this year. You also have the issue that you overstayed so like moonbaby mentioned they might not allow you back in when you try and renew it next year. It really depends on who you get but sometimes they can be understanding when you have overstayed for a very short period. Explain to them that you have unforeseen financial circumstances that won't allow you to finance your course and you wish to return next year. I would not let it go any longer and go in as soon as possible. Is there any way you can speak to your college about your visa situation? Immigration really only go by the letters that the college send them so see what you can do there as well. Best of luck!
