Looking to buy a 08/09 Estate in 2013....

    Hi all,

Hopefully not clogging up the forum, but looking to "upgrade" the charito next year. I don't want to spend a huge amount, and I reckon I will more than likely go for a trade, as opposed to buying privately.

I have a 05 Astra estate, diesel. 1.7, NCTed etc.

I was looking at a diesel focus estate or an octavia estate maybe. Both seem reasonably priced, they would be under €10 or in and around that anyhow.

However, I was also thinking of stretching the budget a little bit for a Nissan Qashaqi. I know, I know. You may think they are sensible and boring, but when it comes to motoring, that would be me.:o:o

Anything else I could consider? Would you recommend I look up North? I suppose, then I'd have to sell my own privately....

Octavia estate would have a little more room than the Focus but not nearly as nice to drive. 1.6 TDCi engine in the Focus is very tempermental and needs to serviced on time using the correct grade of oil otherwise you are looking at alot of problems. 1.8 TDCi Focus would be alot more reliable.

1.9 TDCi Octavia would also be reliable once looked after as it is an old school, less complex engine. Nissan Qashqai despite it's looks is really only a standard hatchback with higher ground clearance and beefed up bumpers. It would not have the versitility of an estate if you need it and they tend to cost more even second hand.

I see what you mean. The reason I want to go 08 is for tax reasons. I wouldn't rule out other makes, but I guess with my budget I am very limited. Had a look at the Nissan today, and while it seems "big", bigger than a car, I'm not sure the boot would be enough. I'd be putting down the seats etc...
