The elite hurdle tomorrow we will finally get to see just how good balder success is on condition he doesn't fall or unseat...
Receiving over a stone from zarkandar and the race being over 2m I think this race will fall into a duel between prospect wells and balder success.
I think or at least I am hoping there is more to come from balder success and I think without looking at the form last year i recall prospect wells could do with a longer trip too.

Title of thread is changed. I'm all over The Cheka in the second last at Donny tomorrow. 14/1 a huge each way price. I did a little write up for something earlier on it

A high class gelding by Xaar, he was once talked up as a possible Classic horse in his younger days following a most impressive ten length debut win in a novice stakes at Ascot as a 2 year old. Whilst not quite reaching those heights, he was a very useful miler for most of his career, including being placed in the Bet365 Mile behind high class Paco Boy. Last year was a frustrating year to follow the horse, as he raced predominantly over seven furlongs, consistently running well but never winning. Having looked like he may have gone off the boil a bit, he came back this year and has proved himself to be a very smart sprinter, including when winning the Cammidge over this course and distance first time out this season on his sprint debut. His run next time out in the Duke of York was even better, going down by a head to Tiddliwinks in what was a really high class renewal, with the Haydock Sprint Cup victor Society Rock in third, as well as Mayson, Sirius Prospect (who he reopposes tomorrow) Bogart and Soul amongst others. Whilst he hasn't won since, he has ran in some really top sprint races, disappointing when down the field behind Black Caviar at Royal Ascot, but ran a very good second on bottomless ground to Mayson in the July Cup at Newmarket, while he ran to a similar level when third in the Prix Maurice de Ghest at Deauville behind the brilliant Moonlight Cloud, a length and a half behind subsequent Abbaye winner Wizz Kid.

Upon first glance, the last three runs don't look so promising, though he ran perfectly well when beaten by Producer in the Supreme Stakes at Goodwood at the end of August, though it appears now that six furlongs is his optimum trip rather than seven. His run in the Ayr Gold Cup is excusable, given that it would be extremely difficult to give so much weight away on really testing going. His run in an ultra competitive Champions' Sprint Stakes was very pleasing, finishing a three and a half length sixth behind Maarek. The form he has showed quite consistently through his short sprinting career should be more than enough to run a big race tomorrow with conditions to suit.

Of the challengers, Sirius Prospect finished ahead of my selection last time out, though he only has a length to make up, and is short enough at around the 5/1 mark, given that he had been quite regressive this year and wouldn't be one to place too much faith in, and as mentioned, did finish behind the Cheka earlier on this year.

Jack Dexter comes into the race on the back of a hat trick in handicap company. Jim Goldie's sprinter is quite clearly a horse on the up and is foolish to totally write off, but this is a classy renewal of the race and he may well want the ground a bit softer than it currently is.

Katla is really likeable mare for the dairy farmer John Grogan who only trains this one horse. She bounced back to her old self after a disappointing year when beating Maarek over six furlongs at the Curragh two starts back on heavy going, and ran well last time out at Dundalk over five furlongs, which probably isn't quite her trip. She may be another who wants softer ground tomorrow ideally, though she's genuine and should run her race once more. Of the bigger prices, Johannes may run into a place, while Eton Rifles could chase the Cheka home at 7/1.

Going to have a crack at these 2 tomorrow. I would prefer to have a go at the jumps races but its still early in the season & having looked at the cards, nothing jumps out. These are just my fancies. Not sure what follows qualifies as a write up (the quality of the rest of your write ups are a tough act to follow), but its been a long week & I’m planning to have a few beers for the rugby tomorrow, so early to bed for me.

    Doncaster

23 runner caper but I love a challenge. Party Line is my pick in this. His 14th race this yr & has been very consistent, his worst finishing position was 4th. That’s impressive, by any measure. An improving 3yo, with a CD in the bag last time out. He’ll run on any ground so if is pours down overnight, I won’t be concerned. Down at the foot of the weights - He’ll do for me @14’;s.

I flicked over the page & see the next race at Donny is a sprint. I like backing sprinters that have won last time out. There are only two in the race. Jack Dexter looks the most likely winner, going for a 4th straight win & his price reflects that. Horse is really firing at present & no reason to see him stopping, with the excellent Graham Lee in the saddle. But I’m looking for something to throw into an each way double so I’m going to run with Thunderball. He bounced back to form last time out & with Silvestre (is he banned?) on the sidelines, yours truly Tom Queally pops back into the saddle having tasted success with him earlier this season. 1lb above his highest winning mark & rising 7yrs old so if he gets his head in front, it will be only by a narrow margin but something has to win it and @ 33/1, he'll do for me also.

So I'm closing my flat season with an each-way double on the above.

    Hail Megatron!

Fair play Urban ! I was only thinking a moment ago...what about the megatron :D

Nice write up btw, I steered clear of the flat to give my fingers a break from the laptop in the summer but your write up looks like its on the money

    Ok Megatron time

Mccoy is going to wincanton to ride Mr Mole then after the second race heading approx 80 or so miles to sandown to pick up the ride of your tepee or mine in the last in sandown...thats enough for me to include both in my megatron. I have excluded overturn as I think he will go off a ridiculous price tomorrow considering he hasnt jumped a fence yet. If he goes 10/11 ill back him as Donald think hes the best chaser to hit his stable to date but Im sure I heard similar to that effect last year wth a serious hurdler called peddlers cross:cool:

I am steering clear of zarkander, nicholls said he wasnt well at the champion hurdle but to be honest I think most of nicholls werent in great shape after the bug in the yard in january. That aside, I think zarkander is a 2m 5 horse not a 2 miler and conceding weight I think an underrated prospect wells (who I think also needs further) or the unknown potential of Balder Success will win that race tomorrow. I would side with Balder as i feel he has more scope to improve given the little amount of races he had last year, not forgetting he destroyed captain sunshine and hazy tom in his 3rd last race in ascot last year. However to cover my millions i am including him in the same accumulator as a bit of back up to my megatron

Anyway back to business here are my megatrons

    mr mole - wincanton
    balder success - wincanton
    hisabaat - naas
your teepee or mine - sandown

    scenario 2
    mr mole - wincanton
    prospect wells - wincanton
    hisabaat - naas
your teepee or mine - sandown

if your on paddy power and want to include sunday betting its a safer Megatron option. If Sizing Rio was priced hed be in the scenarios below also

    scenario 1
    mr mole
    balder success
    your teepee or mine
voler le vedette - navan sunday
    flemenstar - navan

    scenario 2
    mr mole
    prospect wells
    your teepee or mine
    voler le vedette
    flemenstar

Heres to the millionaire lifestyle I have yet to experience

I was going to include Ned Bunting in mine as he looks like a nice horse...I left it out only because of the J magnier/mullins combo in the same race

cheers all the same or the others

The one horse I don't like at all tomorrow is Prospect Wells. He strikes me as wanting further.

Think Baby Mix could be in the shake up in that race

I think he definitely needs further to bring the best out of him but I also think he's underrated as a 2miler. His defeat to captain Conan is what shaped this belief .... Look at the supreme he wasn't far away at all.

If prospect wells is trying tomorrow he wins off that weight.

I like Retrieve in the November handicap at Doncaster. Not by much though but 22/1 with 5 places is tempting. 3rd try at 12f and Good good to soft ground should be perfect. Small each way. Siongcraft in the same race for Godolphin is better off with Retrieve on their last meeting but has had chances to show improvement and can be less trusted.

Whos Harry Fry? I see he's got two ex-Nichols horses in Violin Davis and King Of The Night.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,451 ✭✭✭Overthelast

Fry used to work with Nicholls. Took out a licence and has been given a start by Paul Barber, who threw the keys of Rock on Ruby at him. Not a bad horse to start your training career with. I see the faint glimmer of light to the east on the horizon. It Can only be Megatron Saturday

He's the young man who trained non other than the champion hurdle winder rock on ruby in Nichols satellite yard!! He's taken on those that were trained in te yard I believe

Right lads I'd love a megatron to come off today.

I have Mr. Mole and Operating so far......

One other bet other than the Cheka and it's Rough Rock in the second at Donny. A competitive race but just a pound above it's last win mark and has been running well in tougher races than this. Small bet at 20/1

Edit: No I won't, won't be in town in time

Backed him the day he won his maiden but I think he's plenty short in a strong race

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

I'll be watching the jumps like everyone else but can't be betting on them. Tamarinbleu is the only bet I'll have. His reappearance record goes something like this 11261222. The 6 came when giving Exotic Dancer 8lbs in the Paddy Power.

    Likewise.

He's receiving 11lbs though. His jumping could have been better the last day but he won it well.

F**k me that would be a shock to see him win!

Wouldn't be a huge fan of Zarkandar normally, but I think his drift has got a bit out of hand and he may be value at 7/2. Prospect Wells hardly has great form in small fields and was 4th in probably a weak Supreme Novices last year. I was a big Balder Success fan last year, but he only showed enough to be 4th or 5th favourite for the triumph last year, before failing to complete twice. On form alone, there's no way he should be giving 4lb to Baby Mix and be way shorter than him. I don't think any of them should be shorter than Zarkandar, despite what Nicholls says about possibly needing the run. He won first time in a hot race last year despite having a cough in the run up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,016 ✭✭✭Hulk Hands

Wow, Overturn very impressive. Backed him at 12's for the Arkle before he jumped the last, i'd seen enough

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 878 ✭✭✭sonnky

Ya, overturn jumped brilliantly, seemed to lug a bit left though but that would be his only fault really!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 878 ✭✭✭sonnky

Texas Jack done it nicely from Make A Track at Naas. Good battle up the run in in a decent beginners chase. Teelin Star dropped out tamely. Texas jack jumped fairly well(No Overturn performance) bar a mistake at the fourth, sprawled on landing. He'll be one too watch out for in graded events was a decent hurdler.

Baby Mix in the elite hurdle at Wincanton e/w and in the Badger Ales trophy: Tamarin Bleu goes well fresh and Mic's Delight a potential improver. Both e/w

Worldor looked very good there. Didn't get the nicest of run at all but did it cozily enough.

Ok, I've decided to go with The Checka - i backed him last time and he got tired on the soft ground at Ascot making the pace. Ran well for a long way.

Gone with another old betting favourite of mine Louis The Pious. The ground should be ok for him and 8/1 is about the lowest I'd go with him. He deserves a big one. Wonder why he left Kevin Ryan.

He battled with propect well to the line...looked comfortable but didn't get much when asked...prospect wells wa staying from the second last zarkander was only shaken up in the straight. Conceding a stone and running fresh. Was a great win.
