    Hi,

I hope somebody can help me with this.

I am picking up Saorview fine on my shiny new digital tv.

I am looking at the advertisements for the new next generation of Freesat, the Freesat+ service.

If I buy a Freesat+ box will I be able to use this along side Saorview or will I need a combi box.

And if I need a Combi box is there one out there that will cater for the Freesat+.

I know very little about this so I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

    Thanks.

You'll be able to receive both, you'll just need to use the TV remote for Saorview. However you won't be able to record Saorview channels to the Freesat+ box.

    Thanks for that Karsini

Can I ask you a second question?

Some of the the boxes being offered on the freesat site offer recording capability

    http://www.freesat.co.uk/products/freesat-box-range

Do I need to run a second cable from the dish to the box to allow this?

there is another possibility i am exploring, if you get freesat box you will need sat dish so with a second lnb you can view saorview ( saorsat ) from your dish so should be able to record all channels on your freesat+ box, bit complicated to set it up but it can be done,

Will the same dish do for both Freesat & Saorsat?

Yes, recording boxes need two inputs so you can watch one channel while recording another, or record two at once.

In theory yes, if the box supports non-Freesat channels and DiSEqC. You won't get TV3 or 3e though.

yes, freesat is at 28e saorsat is at 9e so you need 2 lnb 1 for each sat, but 1 dish imthinking of getting an 80 cm dish to ensure good spread and signal strength ,research saorsat, there is plenty of information on boards regarding same, it needs a special lnb but as i say plenty of info here on boards re aligning dish etc , have not done it yet my self but intend to give it a go shortly with a humax freesat hdr as my reciever

It would need to be a fairly big dish (90-100 cm), for reliable reception. It's not that complicated to set up, given the right receiver software.

As already mentioned, no TV3 or 3e on Saorsat. Also, there are no Freesat combi boxes.

    Thanks for that.

Apologies for what will seem like a dumb question to you guys.

So I need two leads from my dish into the box so I can record while watching a different channel....does that mean that I need two of those "node" things sticking out of my dish, one for each cable?

I said I knew little or nothing about this :-)

For a single LNB, yes. If you're using two LNBs on one dish then they aren't focussing on the centre of the dish so won't pick up as good a signal as if it were directly pointed. So you need a bigger dish to compensate for that loss.

I've got the Humax box and I'd highly recommend it.

thanks for that will perhaps go to 90 cm but i thought that 28e is very stong and that the dish could be more or less pointed at 9e and that the offset 28 lnb would still get sufficient signal strength but now is the time to be finding this information not after i have bought the dish

    Thanks,

Just looking at the Amazon reviews....

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R3SBA9FIIWPCPK/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#R3SBA9FIIWPCPK

" If you want iplayer, be prepared to either hook up an ethernet cable to broadband, or purchase homeplug adaptors (a right pain) to connect to you router. This box should have come with wi-fi like any video game console. It costs enough.."

Thats a disappointment as I didn't realise that access to the iplayer would be via the internet, so with an Irish IP address that seems to be that -:

ya we are basically borrowing the uk freeview service over satellite so freesat is not optimised for irish use but still you get all the bbcs etc in hd for free which i cannot get any other way as chorus upc dont cover outside their cable service any hd and sky are too bloody dear and i hate monopoly's

Would leave 28 east struggling a bit if you put Saorsat at dish focus. See this post.
